Commentators – Before the show started Joe came out to confirm that Wolfdogg was on his honeymoon and would not be working tonight. He then introduced tonight’s commentary team of Chino and Kurt. He also welcomed RCW’s new Commissioner, Andy. Unfortunately the whole process was let down by the sound and lighting and would have seemed amateurish to a lot of the new fans I saw around the ring. By the end of the night they wouldn’t have cared! This was the best I have ever heard Chino so it was very unfortunate that he lost his voice during the first half of the show as the one liners were rolling thick and fast. Andy may have been nervous on his first night and it showed in the tone in his voice. If you are going to be the Commissioner then you need to speak with authority and conviction to sell the character. I am sure that will come with experience. Kurt seemed to do most of the talking, which wasn’t helped by there only being one working microphone and Kurt not knowing how to share!! Didn’t like the accent as it got a bit too much after awhile but he did a good job. On the night they were good and added to the overall feel of the show but I do have one issue – please know the wrestlers main moves. A couple of times a wrestler would hit one of his main spots and there would be silence as each man at the table looked at each other to see if someone knew what it was called. By the time they called out the spot, the moment was gone and so was the impact.

Fuzion v Mimic

Fuzion refuses to enter the ring and confront the eager Mimic so Just Josh comes from behind the curtain and throws him into the faceless one. I liked that touch to start things off – is the little details that make the bigger picture so much brighter. Mimic attacks the man who stole his SnakePit Title with chops, stiff forearms shots and an arm bar suplex. Fuzion attempts a comeback with a shoulder block but Mimic is back with an arm drag off the ropes and soon a “Fuzion Sucks” chant begins. The Champ ignores the taunts as he hits a knee lift to the midriff and then elbow shots. That just ticks off Mimic who slaps the skin off his chest then follows up with a snap suplex and stiff kicks. A springboard splash and fireman carry into a drop that put Fuzion’s head onto his knee were next. A neck breaker was executed before Fuzion took the opportunity to fight back with kicks in the corner and what has to be now his trademark spinebuster for a two count. Arn Anderson would be proud to call that one his own. Missing the pin upsets Fuzion as he rains down punches from the mount position and then picks Mimic up for a delayed suplex. Mimic fights back with more stiff forearms and leg lariat before hitting a back breaker and flying high cross body from the top rope. He could only obtain a two count as well. Fuzion briefly got in some offence with forearms back in the mount position but Mimic hit another back breaker that was OUCH! He followed up with a lionsault and then went to the top where Fuzion caught him. Not sure what to call the next move but I’d describe it as Fuzion hitting a RKO whilst Mimic’s feet were on the ropes. I am sure someone can correct me! Fuzion then comes off the top himself with an ax hammer but hurts his knee and the referee checks the fallen combatant. The distraction allows GD Grimm to come out and hit his brother with a wicked curb stomp. The crowd rings out with “Dregan Sucks” – a theme that continues during the night, which must be a concern that they are not picking up the name change. Fuzion hits a chokeslam and is able to pin Mimic while standing with one foot on his chest. He gives Mimic a shot for good measure as he leaves. Good, solid match. The crowd was involved the whole time and became very worked up with the finish and Grimm costing Mimic the match. Good way to start the show.

Savannah Summers v Jessie McKay

It was nice to finally see an interstate woman come into RCW and actually work the crowd. I love watching Sara Jay wrestle but she never really did much to work the heel angle with the crowd. Jessie has no such problem. From the moment her music hit, she worked the crowd to the point they wanted to kill her! The way she strutted around the ring to her outfit, they wanted to hate her! Having said that, Savannah needs to do the same. The crowd is going to love her because she’s local and she’s beautiful but she needs to work on her character and interaction because I feel both are lacking. Women never seem to get storylines in RCW and I know it’s hard now there is only one but still would be nice if they got the benefit of as much booking consideration as the men. Jessie’s arrogance rubbed Savannah the wrong way so she slapped her to start the match. That horrified Jessie and she ran to her handbag to check her complexion in her compact mirror! (Again the little touches add so much). She came back and put the boot to Savannah’s stomach and followed up with a head lock, shoulder block and clothesline. Savannah fought back and hit the Savannah Bomb early, using her legs to attempt her pin from that position but only for a two count. A Kevin Nash boot in the corner was followed by a monkey flip and then chops. Next was move of the match for me with a suplex that was rolled over into a head lock submission – very nice. Jessie became desperate and slammed Savannah to the mat, using her hair as leverage. She then choked her opponent using her boot whilst distracting the referee’s gaze. Jessie then put in a Nash boot of her own and pulled Savannah’s hair in a chin lock. As Savannah rose to her feet, Jessie hit her with a drop toe hold that sent her local foe’s head into the turnbuckles. Savannah got up and fought back with a clothesline / slam that again I need help naming – if it has one! With momentum on her side now, she went to the top ropes but missed the cross body and that allowed Jessie to baseball slide her off the apron and onto the floor. Jessie pounds Savannah’s head into the apron but only hears a two count when they re-enter the ring. Jessie then stands on Savannah’s hair and pulls on her arms until the referee administers the five count. An exchange occurs and out of nowhere Savannah gets the school boy roll up for the win! Did I not like that finish! Spoiled for me what was one of, if not the most, entertaining women’s match I’ve seen in RCW. Such a cheap way to end a great match. I hope they bring Jessie back as she was very good and the crowd really enjoyed the two of them working together.

Adam Gambino v Jesse Plandora

Adam comes out in a Hungry Jacks hat, carrying a book! He then proceeds to offer a heart felt apology for his language at the last show and begins to read from the Bible! I wish he had slowed down a bit with the reading because he was talking too fast to catch it all but I did pick up on the digs at a former RCW wrestler but I feel for the parents in attendance who had to field the “What is anal ribbing?” questions from their kids!!!! Jesse entered the ring quickly – no, that’s not a pun – and attacked Adam, which sent the Victorian to the floor where he was hit with a spring board moonsault. Jesse came back into the ring and was hit with a hard clothesline and then some knife edge chops. After a hard whip into the corner, the original Emo was hit with a DDT that he sold beautifully. He was then hit with a boot to the midriff and Adam began to work on the legs, to ground the high flyer. Obviously not well enough as Jesse got off the mat to hit him with a standing drop kick. Jesse was then able to come off the ropes and reverse into a hurricarana and hit a leg drop. He attempts to scoop slam a bus but is swatted away like a fly. Adam kicks him in the head and then puts on an ankle lock. That’s followed by a discuss kick to the ribs. The crowd voices their support as an “Emo” chant can be heard. This encourages him as he fights back and hits a guillotine leg drop over the ropes and onto the apron, with Adam’s head hanging out to dry. He goes for the win with a leg drop from the top rope but that only brings a two count. Jesse goes to the top again but this time Adam pushes the refereed into the ropes and he knocks Jesse off his feet. He pounds Jesse’s back with a vicious chop and then brings out Goldust’s Shattered Dreams. I love that move! Adam then takes a microphone from the announce table and has the referee hold it whilst he chops Jesse’s bare chest – OUCH!! Jesse attempts to come back with an enzuguri but Adam is able to duck and reverse it into an ankle lock. Jesses tries to get to the ropes and kick off Adam’s grip but its all to no avail and he eventually is forced to submit and tap out. Adam refuses to let go of the hold until he’s done his damage and the cuts a promo asking for someone to give him some actual competition. Who will that be? I would love to see Man Mountain from JPW be the one but that’s just me dreaming! Another good, entertaining match and I can’t wait to see what Adam comes up with next time!!

Next was meant to be GD Grimm v Just Josh but before the match could be announced, Pitbull and Dienamic burst through the curtain, attacking each other with animal savagery. Security has to come in and pull them apart – way to get heat from the crowd security!! Commissioner Andy gets on the mic and says if they want each other that much, why wait, let’s do this now……

Pitbull v Dienamic 2
No Count Outs

I usually write about one page of notes per match, filling in the gaps from memory when I write my reviews. I wrote two pages for this one! Pitbulll starts things off with three stiff clotheslines but then Dienamic whips him into the corner and hits a running forearm. He then comes off the apron and hits a clothesline to the floor. Pitbull gets up and hits a baseball slide that puts Dienamic into the guard rails. He then uses the masked one’s head as battering ram for the guard rails and ring apron. Dienamic pulls Pitbull over the rail from the apron and now they are both into the crowd. They begin to fight through the crowd, knocking over chairs as they move around and Pitbull puts Dienamic into the wall. He then suplexes him on the hard floor and climbs a wall attachment that gives him the height to hit a double axe handle. They continue to fight around the arena and Pitbull heads his opponent before throwing him down the stairs towards the toilets. It was funny watching everyone scurry over to see what was happening and then run away when they came back up! Dienamic hit a snap mere near me and then put in with the stiff kicks that I felt in my spine! He then hits his own axe handle off the guard rails. They are still out on the floor as Dienamic hits a snap suplex then plancha from the apron in the ring. The action returns to the ring as Pitbull suplexes Dienamic then puts the boots to his ribs and gives a splash head butt to his shoulder. He then goes under the ring to bring out a staple gun but the referee stops him from using it!! Dienamic takes this break and hits the rolling kick to the corner, and then paint brushes and double kicks Pitbull’s head. He then goes to the top and double stomps him on the chest. Out come the stiff forearms and he throws in a discuss forearm for good measure. Things are soon back out to the floor where Dienamic puts a boot to the head but Pitbull comes back with a somersault off the apron and over the guard rails!! The crowd is really into this as a “RCW” chant begins. Pitbull tries to use the staple gun again but the referee is having nothing of it. Pitbull flings Dienamic through three rows of chairs as the crowd scatter to prevent being taken out but the merchandise stand can’t help itself as it gets hit! Pitbull now puts his opponent’s head into the ring apron and whips him into the steel ring steps. Dienamic fights back with kicks and forearms and I begin to wonder if these two are going to kill each other! Pitbull lifts Dienamic up onto his neck and then drops him onto his head – OUCH!!! He goes to the top to hit another somersault but this time his misses and now both men are down. Dienamic recovers first and Storm Cradle’s Pitbull into the mat and not being happy with just one, he does it twice! He misses the stomp from the top rope and they both come off the ropes with double clotheslines and again the only one standing is the referee. Both men go to the floor and bring out chairs from under the ring. They get back in the ring and without hesitation each other in the body and head with the steel chairs. Pitbull’s hard head lets him recover first and he hits the Kryptonite Krunch and gets a can of spray paint! In a gesture the crowd pops for, he paints “RCW” on Dienamic’s back. For the first time in RCW he speaks but unfortunately his voice was hard to pick up but the crowd could hear the important stuff……….he asks the Commissioner for Pitbull v Dienamic 3 – something the excited crowd agrees they want to see. He then asks for RCW’s first ever………Hardcore Death Match!!! The crowd LOVES that idea! Just when we thought it was all over, Katie Kollision turns around and hits Pitbull with the barb wire baseball bat! She’s joined forces with Dienamic! I don’t hate the switch but no explanation is given so I hope they don’t just brush the details of why, aside. Dienamic hits Pitbull with a chair and the kicks one into his head. Next came the staple gun………I lost count at 13 staples, some of which could still be seen in Pitbull’s head as he was helped away. The crowd was stunned and were silent! I kid you not – there wasn’t a sound. Dienamic gives him three standing stomps and then walks off with his new partner. The fans now react and one gets in his face as he leaves. WOW! I didn’t think they could top last month’s match but they did! Match of the Night – but again they tie with the Main Event. I have never seen two guys work so stiff with each other and it comes across as such great intensity in their matches. Not even my own death will keep me away from the next show!!!

GD Grimm v Just Josh

Great idea to have the intermission here, so the fans could recover from the assault to their senses from the last match. Grimm came up with a cool bandana around his face but the crowd still cheered him! I saw an entire section clapping as he walked around the ring. Grimm attempts to attack Josh quickly but he’s not quick enough as Josh leaps to the outside and won’t get back in. When he does his speed allows him to avoid Grimm’s offence and kick him over the ropes and to the floor. He misses a baseball slide and is whipped into the guard rails. Grimm attempts a punch but misses and hits the ring post. Josh attempts to whip him into the rails but it’s reversed and he gets hit with a stiff forearm. Grimm confronts some fans and this allows Josh time to recover and kick him off the apron with the former clown attempts to enter the ring again. That just pisses Grimm off more. He rakes Josh’s eyes and hits him with a side walk slam and kick to the back. The crowd his yelling abuse but someone needs to remind them he is not Dregan anymore! He whips Josh to the corner and follows up with a clothesline. His smaller opponent gets his eyes raked over the top rope and then a face wash boot. Josh is down as Grimm lays in with the boots and hits a low blow before putting some more fans in their place. Its all Josh needs as he attempts a flying cross body from the top rope but it only brings a two count. Next is the Jeff Hardy double drop kick using the corner ropes. Grimm comes back with some punches in the corner but misses the big boot. Josh attempts a suplex but his much bigger opponent reverses it into a delayed suplex of his own. “You suck Dregan” starts up and again I want to remind them of what his name is now! Grimm attempts an arm bar but it’s reversed into a roll up and two count for Josh. He attempts another two roll up variations but each time he just falls short by that one tap of the referee’s hand. Grimm has had enough of this and hits a tilt a whirl back breaker. Josh comes back with a reversal into a hurricarana and when Grimm tries to throw him out the ring, he skins the cat and hits the 619!! All the kids in the crowd loved him for that one! Josh then comes off the top with a flying clothesline but Grimm’s superior strength allows him to pick up Josh for a splash into the corner turnbuckles but the referee is in the way and takes most of the impact. Josh then hits a hurricarana that drops Grimm on his head but there is no referee to make the count. Grimm gets up and attempts the splash again but again the referee takes the full force of the move! Now Josh and the referee are down. Grimm sets up the helpless Josh for the curb stomp but Mimic runs out and hits his brother with a WICKED double under hook pile driver that must have sent Grimm to the chiropractor! Josh seizes the opportunity and comes off the top rope with a spring boar frog splash for the win! The crowd went crazy! Anyone who thinks Josh can’t be RCW’s #1 baby face – listen to that reaction. Another good, solid match. Still seems the crowd wants to cheer Grimm when he comes out but by the end of his match, he’s finally getting the heel heat he wants.

VooDoo v Damon Matthews
RCW Title
No Disqualification

Nice steady pace to start the match as you don’t want to go straight to the high spots in these types of matches and leave the fans with nothing at the end. Damon attempts to punch VooDoo but he rolls away. They lock up and again VooDoo is able to roll away. Damon then tries an arm bar but that’s reversed by the challenger. Finally he puts a head lock on and hits a shoulder block but then VooDoo comes back with one of his own and a somersault arm drag. Using the ropes he hits a spring board clothesline and then back elbow off the 2nd rope. Next is a tornado DDT off the top but that only brings a two count. Both men are on the ropes but Damon reverses VooDoo’s attack and hits a bookend off the top. Using that momentum he hits a suplex and then dragon suplex before dropping the ropes so VooDoo falls to the floor. VooDoo attempts to whip this champ into the guard rails but Damon is able to put the brakes on, only to be charged into the rails anyway. His head and the ring post then meet for the first time. VooDoo then executes a swinging neck breaker onto the floor with Damon’s feet on the rail. He puts Damon back in the ring but they are joined by a number of chairs. One of them is used as VooDoo comes off the 2nd rope for a spring board elbow onto the chair and in turn, Damon’s head. A flash of Raven is next as we see the drop toe hold into the chair. Damon’s head stays on the chair as VooDoo uses another one to take shots at the arrogant cranium. Realising things are starting to head in the wrong direction, Damon hits VooDoo with a chair. He then places VooDoo’s head on the ropes with a chair against it and comes at him with a double drop kick that introduces metal to flesh. The challenger is now out on the floor and Damon comes off the top for a flying high cross body. He puts his opponent’s head into the ring apron and then rolls him back in. From the top, he throws a chair to VooDoo who catches it and wins a missile drop kick to the head for the achievement. He’s thrown back to the floor and into the crowd, where Damon hits him with vicious and stiff punches. Damon then puts VooDoo into doors and the wall before being charged and wedged between the ring and the rails. VooDoo comes off with a corkscrew moonsault to the floor and now both men are chopping each other down to size. Damon goes behind the curtain and returns with a spatula! He’s quickly taken off of him and he gets chopped with it! Damon pulls the rails apart and lays two down on top of each other. He then suplexes VooDoo onto the rails. Not content, he climbs the ropes and comes off the top with an Enigma Bomb on top of VooDoo and the rails! A very loud “RCW” chant sounds. Please take note of this moment in the match as I will refer back to it at the end. Both weary and battered men are back in the ring and Damon hits a fireman’s carry into a suplex on two chairs. He hits VooDoo in the back with a chair, which gives him the time to stack about six or eight on them on top of each other. VooDoo is placed on top of the chairs but this time Damon’s aim is not on, as he misses and lands the Enigma Bomb onto all the steel chairs! That’s going to leave a mark. Damon is really desperate now as he can see his title slipping away and goes back to what he knows best – the kendo stick. VooDoo, however, has other ideas and takes it off him and after three shots to the head, the champ is down. VooDoo sets up to two chairs and picks up the bleeding Matthews. The referee is knocked down as both men climb to the top and VooDoo hits a Canadian destroyer off the top rope through the two chairs!! Not sure which is Move of the Night – that or Damon’s Enigma Bomb to the floor. Stuff it; it’s a three way tie with Damon’s Enigma Bomb onto the chairs!! VooDoo has one problem – no referee to make the count. Damon gets up and hits VooDoo with a chair shot to the head but that only brings a two count! A series of reversals follow before Damon hits a low blow and then the vertebreaker for the pin, to retain the RCW Championship. The crowd is not happy but things are far from over as Damon gets some tape and picks up his kendo…..here we go again!! But not this time as Mimic comes out to make the save and hits Damon with the double under hook piledriver. He then helps VooDoo to tape Damon to the ropes! To the crowd’s approval, VooDoo hits Matthews with a kendo shot to the back – I guess payback really is a bitch! Grimm comes out to help but he’s stopped by his brother who comes out the ring with a springboard splash and then stiff kicks. Grimm hits a low blow and goes into the ring to save Damon but Mimic is soon back up and after some stiff kicks, he and VooDoo throw Grimm back to the floor. Adam Gambino comes out to cut Damon from the ropes and now everyone wants their say! Mimic cuts a promo on his brother and challenges him to a Sibling Rivalry match at the next show. The Commissioner then gets on the mic and states he’s had enough of all this and from now on, there will be consequences for those who interfere in other’s matches. He informs VooDoo that after two chances at the title, he’s now back at the bottom of the pecking order. Matthews celebrates as he thinks he has next month off but no, Justin Cross is back for another shot at the title!!!!

Now, remember that spot in the match I said I would refer back to? Go back and re-read everything that happened after that, this time with the knowledge Damon Matthews did it all on a broken ankle!! Enormous courage or just plain stupidity? I’ll let you be the judge but my respect for him as a wrestler grows more and more. I’m already counting down the days until those bones heal and he’s back in the ring………

The best RCW and local show I have ever been to? If it isn’t, then it’s pretty bloody close to it. The entire company has stepped up since the departures and who said they couldn’t survive without them? Who bloody needs them!!!

See you ALL on the 8th – it will be a night you will never forget……
